Dear North Hollywood HGM Families:
I know you are all very busy but YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED! 
Ms. Garcia, the magnet coordinator at Portola HG Magnet Middle School, was just informed that, due to the budget crisis, the District is planning to cut her magnet coordinator position and that of the North Hollywood HG Magnet Coordinator to half-time (50%). As you know, this would be devastating to our programs. These women serve as dean, counselor and curriculum coordinator for our children, as well as general problem-solver and advocate.  On top of this, the LAUSD is also cutting Assistant Principal positions at most schools; if the magnet coordinators are cut, it would be extremely difficult to find an administrator with whom parents could speak. Our children will be lost in the shuffle!
For this reason we are asking North Hollywood HG Magnet parents to join us in lobbying LAUSD not to make these cuts. While it may not work, we want them to know there is a vocal constituency of highly gifted families that demand LAUSD support them and provide an appropriate education for their children. Encourage your teachers to support us as well!
Here is what we need you to do:
1)     Please CALL your local School Board member to express your concern. You can use the attached letter content as a script. You can find your home school board district on the map located here: http://laschoolboard.org/files/images/maps/2007-08_Board_Districts_All.pdf and the email/address contact for each member is on the www.lausd.net website.

2)     Please take FIVE MINUTES to print out and sign the attached form letter and mail/email it to LAUSD personnel. Feel free to personalize it to your liking and please mail it to an individual Board Member and Superintendant Cortines.

This action is urgently needed. The future of our programs is at stake. PLEASE take the time to act on this ASAP. We appreciate your help.

I corrected the name.
Maybe someone can send to all HGM families and friends in the distribution list.  

Just a heads up -- the letter attached to ms. Hosken's email misspells Cortines' first name -- it's Ramon, not Raymond. If we're asking people to send the letters, it would be good to spell his name correctly.
